A PSV licence lasts exactly one year. Renewal is simple — one medical, one counter visit, one small fee — but it is surrounded by traps that cost drivers days of income. This page gives you the steps, the real cost, and a calculator that tells you when your renewal window opens.

Renewal, step by step
Book the clinic first
Renewal needs a fresh JPJL8A medical every year. Do this up to a month before expiry — the report is valid for a year, so there is no benefit in cutting it fine. Cost: typically ~RM50. Full details on the medical guide.
Check your CDL and summonses
Your Competent Driving Licence must be valid, and it pays to clear any new summonses first — check on the MyJPJ app in two minutes.
Visit a JPJ counter
State and branch offices handle renewal in their normal hours, and JPJ counters at UTCs can renew too (unlike new registration) — handy if you work days. Bring your MyKad, CDL, the completed JPJL8A with clinic receipt, and your current licence. Hours are on the office hours page.
Pay the renewal fee
RM20 for one year, excluding any adjustment fees. Keep the receipt with your licence documents.
Update your operator
E-hailing drivers: upload or present the renewed licence to your operator before the old expiry date passes in their system, or your account can pause automatically even though JPJ has renewed you.

The three expiry traps
Driving on an expired PSV. The day after expiry you are no longer licensed to carry paying passengers — not “a few days’ grace”. Trips taken anyway risk summonses, operator action and insurance problems.
The 3-year trap. Leave a vocational licence expired for more than 3 years and JPJ can require the full application process again — course included. A RM20 renewal becomes a RM200+ restart.
The operator mismatch. JPJ renewed you, but your e-hailing app still shows the old date and suspends you on expiry day. Send the new licence to your operator the same day you renew.
