PSV licence cost in Malaysia — the full breakdown

Illustration of a wallet, coins, calculator and receipts — working out the cost of a PSV licence

Drivers ask two cost questions: “How much to get PSV?” and “How much does it cost me every year after that?” Both have honest answers — and a few costs nobody mentions until they appear. This page lists all of them, then lets you calculate your own total.

The three-year picture

Year one costs roughly RM150–RM280. Years two and three cost roughly RM70–90 each (medical + renewal fee). So budget around RM300–RM460 across your first three years of driving — a small figure compared with a single month of e-hailing income, and a very small figure compared with the fines and lost income of driving without a valid PSV.

Ways drivers legitimately pay less

  • Operator schemes: new-driver PSV programmes from e-hailing operators have offered subsidised courses (as low as RM50 at selected driver centres) and reimbursement after activation and a set number of trips. Offers change — check your operator’s app or driver centre this month, not an old article
  • Compare institutes: the same national syllabus ranges from RM70 to RM200 depending on the institute and city
  • Do not pay “agents” for the licence itself: nobody can skip the medical, the attendance or JPJ for you. An agent who promises a PSV without the course is selling you a problem
  • Renew on time: the most expensive PSV is the one left expired past 3 years, which can mean paying for the whole process again
